Operating under license from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB ), Hispan TV is an Iranian news channel that broadcasts in Spanish and is available for free through Hot Bird satellite. Launched in December 2011, the aim of Hispan TV is to present a variety of programmes without a political bias, with realistic reporting on what is happening in the world. The channel broadcasts a wide variety of programmes to a mostly Hispanic television audience located across Iran and the rest of Asia.
However, the channel, whose headquarters are located in Tehran, also aims to reach TV viewers living in Latin America, Europe and the United States. Through a blend of entertainment and factual shows, Hispan TV wants to build bridges between Iranians and the rest of the world.
Working with correspondents in Madrid, along with a larger group of Spanish journalists, and their team based in Tehran, the Iranian channel covers important global events, with an impartial approach. It selects items for discussion from a variety of topics, from sport, to culture, economics and politics.
Aside from live news broadcasts, a glance at the TV guide reveals that Hispan TV also delivers entertainment programmes; like drama series, and films from Iran and elsewhere. Through Hot Bird viewers can catch their many documentary shows, covering aspects of life in the Arab world and Iran, as well as other cultures. Viewers can also enjoy educational shows to help them develop their communications skills, with programmes teaching Persian and other languages.
