Thalitha TV, or Algérie 3, is Algeria’s third public channel and has been broadcast around the world by satellite for several years, offering a variety of programmes. Thalitha TV was launched in 2001 after three years in the planning. As its success grew the range of its shows and coverage of issues was broadened. Information programmes, game shows and documentaries, as well as sports, variety and religious programmes, share the channel’s timetabling. Its programming is completed with some US and Algerian series.
Ideal for keeping abreast of the news from Algeria, Thalitha TV also enables viewers to follow the Maghreb football championships and watch cycling races that are not shown elsewhere, such as the Grand Tour of Algeria. The channel offers also the latest trends, such as the hit TV talent show, Alhan wa Chabeb, which adds a youthful edge to its more serious programming. Frequent reporting provides more depth to certain topics and allows viewers to keep up to date with current local and world affairs. This Algerian channel is also known for its successful sitcom productions, such as series 2 and 3 of Nass Mlah City. This comedy show has many loyal followers and helped contribute to Thalitha TV’s initial success in the early 2000s.
As it is broadcast around the world by satellite, Thalitha TV allows expatriates to follow Algeria’s daily news. The three aims of Thalitha TV are to entertain, inform and cultivate, a mission in which it is successful.
